The Buck Himself

"Henry Charles Bukowski was a German-born American poet, novelist and short story writer. His writing was influenced by the social, cultural and economic ambience of his home city of Los Angeles." -Wikipedia

"Bukowski is the great chronicler of the City of Angels, and after John Steinbeck and Robinson Jeffers, who influenced Bukowski's poetry, he arguably is the most important and certainly one of the most influential writers produced by the Golden state." -IMDB

Significance: As a writer during the beatnik era, Bukowski dared to write about life in the city, alcoholism, and womanizing. It was something that other authors in this time period wrote about. However, Bukowski stood out above the others because he often used strong language with no regards to who the viewer was. The novels were usually based on his own life and the experiences he had while he was alive. The poems he wrote have been used in all areas of the media world. In a sense, he was a pioneer whose tone of writing was down to earth and that person living in the 21st century would be able to relate to in one way or another.
